Our Story

 

At Riley’s, we believe great food, good drinks, and a love for dogs make life better. What started as a shared dream between Jess and John — fueled by countless adventures, countless sandwiches, and the companionship of their four-legged daughter Riley — has grown into a unique collection of dog-friendly restaurants in the Milwaukee area.

 

July 2020:  While working from home during the pandemic, Jess and John saw a gap in the local scene: a place with truly great sandwiches where you could also bring your pup. Inspired by their travels and love for community, they decided to make it happen.

 

February 2021:  Riley’s Sandwich Co. opened in Shorewood, making history as the first restaurant in Wisconsin to use sous vide as its primary cooking method. Starting with eight sandwiches, wine, and beer, they quickly expanded to 25 sandwich creations within a year.

 

July 2022:  They brought Riley’s Social House & Sandwich Co.to Milwaukee’s Third Ward — a cozy corner with 24 craft drafts, cocktails, fresh salads, and an innovative Dog Comfort System. Soon came catering, wings, tacos, pizza, darts, fantasy football, block parties, and more.

 

June 2025:  The newest member of the family, Riley’s Bar + Burger, opened in Bay View, bringing their signature food, drinks, and dog-friendly vibes to a whole new neighborhood.

Who We Are

 

Jess brings nearly 20 years of customer service experience and a Master’s in Public Service & Healthcare Administration. John adds 30 years of leadership in hospitality, a knack for creative operations, and the recipes that define Riley’s menu. Together, their shared vision and relentless teamwork are the “secret sauce” behind the brand.

 

Riley, their spirited Jack Russell-Beagle mix, has been part of the journey for over 17 years. Rescued from Kentucky, she’s the inspiration for the dog-friendly focus that’s become a hallmark of Riley’s — because here, dogs aren’t just welcome, they’re part of the family.
